My meditation for today is stirred up by thoughts expressed in a letter written in the 2nd century. The following is my takeaway.
God planted both the tree of knowledge and the tree of Life. Life cannot exist without knowledge, and knowledge influences life. The tree of knowledge does not destroy; it is disobedience that destroys.
We combine knowledge with fear [of the Lord]. We seek life [in Christ]. We plant in hope and harvest fruit that pleases God. We are filled with understanding and in this we glorify God.
Jesus tells us, “Ask, and the gift is yours. Seek, and you’ll discover. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. For every persistent one will get what he asks for. Every persistent seeker will discover what he longs for. And everyone who knocks persistently will one day find an open door.” (Matt 7:7-8 TPT)
I want more of God, but I don’t yet know what the “more” is. I will seek more revelation knowledge because it is the key to greater discernment and making better decisions. Holy Spirit, I ask you to teach me good questions to ask, and increase my spiritual sight and hearing that I may receive all that You show me.
I am reading “Transfigured: From Darkness to Light” in which the author Charlie Shamp quoted the 2nd century letter to Diognetus.
I accessed “The Epistle of Mathetes to Diognetus” at https://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/ diognetus-roberts.html. (accessed on 10/13/2023)
